HRDI works across Thailand's highlands to advance sustainable development through research, innovation, and community-based development. Building on the knowledge and experience of the Royal Project, we work alongside communities and partners to improve livelihoods, conserve natural resources, and strengthen resilient highland communities.
Our work is carried out across three interconnected areas: the Royal Project Area, HRDI Development Areas, and our Royal Park Rajapruek n Chiang Mai, where knowledge, partnerships, and innovation are brought together to support sustainable highland development.
The Royal Project Area
The Foundation of Sustainable Highland Development
The Royal Project Area is where Thailand's approach to sustainable highland development began under the Royal Initiatives of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. For more than five decades, these areas have served as living learning landscapes where research, innovation, and community development are integrated to improve livelihoods while conserving forests and watershed ecosystems.
Working closely with the Royal Project Foundation, HRDI supports research, knowledge management, innovation, and capacity building that strengthen sustainable development across the Royal Project Area.
Today, the network of Royal Agricultural Stations and Royal Project Development Centers continues to demonstrate practical approaches that connect research with field application, creating valuable lessons that can be adapted to other highland communities throughout Thailand.
